OUR AIMS

Team Ice Fire's ultimate aim is to compete in world class long distance sled dog races against the top teams from Scandinavia, Europe and North America.

2008 / 2009

After the big move to Wales and a difficult year the team are now settling down and building for the future. The team's move to the mountains gives a better opportunity to train harder and remove the commuting issues we had previously faced as we are now based at the start of the training trail. We are currently undergoing a transitional period where we will be gradually introducing Alaskan/European racing hounds to the team and our passion and desires to race pure bred Greenland dogs gradually comes to an end. The effects of climate change that rapidly endangers a sport which I have been involved in for over two decades no longer allows the purity of full blown sled dogs and for our survival for a competive future means that we have to take the step towards running racing hounds. I am saddened by the change and the loss of the characteristics of such a primative breed dating back over five thousand years, but I do look forward to working with dogs who are easier to manage on a day to day basis.

We look to run a long distance event next winter, whether it be La Grande Odyssee or an event in Norway. Pressures from work stop us spending months away from home, so we will choose an event and train hard in the five months leading up to our chosen event. Our aim is to finish in a good position and return to being a strong competitor in Europe and Scandinavia and to show yet again that Britain can produce a world class team in a sport that is not their national sport.

Sponsorship

The other aim the team are working towards is to continue developing our relationship with our current sponsors, whilst building new relationships with British and European sponsors. The team are also looking to continue with their good relationship with the Worldwide media and television. Nick continues with his motivational speaking and after dinner speeches, whilst continuing to write magazine articles on a regular basis.

The team continue to strive towards providing a British pedigree in the competitive world of top flight Sled Dog Racing!
